This article is for women … or… why not for men too, who had and
still have the habit of taking care of their skin. Between the advice of the
beautician, the dermatologist, numerous adverts or word of mouth, it’s easy to
be bombarded by all kinds of “great products”.... “HOORAY I’m happy to learn
that such and such products worked for the lady on the advert but “WHY THE HELL, DOESN'T IT WORK FOR
MEEEEE???” I can hear the same
desperate cries for the majority out there.
Taking care of your skin, sometimes can prove to be quite of a headache, so where to start? Which products to choose from? Which are the best? Where to buy? Which products are better suited to our type of skin? Where to ask for advice? In short, all these questions that torment the minds of the women and most certainly in their very intimate secrecy, men who will never admit it at the cost of their life!! Above all thing, it's very simple. You just need to understand how allllll the skin types function and not just yours! There is a minority that really knows everything on the subject and others who just give up because they consider it to be a lost time. Well to these I would like to remind them this famous saying: 'a healthy mind in a healthy body'! So if you are taking care of the mind you need to take care of the body as well.

What is the skin?
The skin is first of all composed of three main layers: the
epidermis, the dermis and the subcutaneous tissue. What we call ‘skin’ is actually
the outer part of the skin that we see. This section of less than a millimeter
thick is called the epidermis and consists of cells having no nucleus, filled
with a hard material which is called keratin. The epidermis has three main
types of differentiated cells, the coenocytes which are dead cells that form
the stratum cornium at the surface, the melanocytes which give pigmentation to
our skin and keratinocytes which are in some sort small factories producing
cells which will progressively be pushed to the surface to be renewed
continuously. There is also a very important cell type called the Langerhans
cells which are used for the immune defense of the body.
Then comes the dermis, the thickest part of the skin. This is
where lie the blood vessels which nourish the skin, nerves that make sensitive
fibers of collagen and elastin which gives the skin its flexibility, hair
follicles, sebaceous glands which secrete sebum which which is the natural
secretion at the surface of the skin and sweat glands which eliminate toxins through
sweat and small blood vessels and
fibers.
Deeper lies the hypodermis (subcutaneous tissue), the fatty
layer that protects the body from external aggression and pressure.
A healthy skin also means taking care of not just the face but
the whole body. For the skin covers the whole
body. And we have a tendency to forget
about it. With 1.5 square meter over the
entire surface, the thickness ranges from 0.05 mm on the eyelids (where it is
the most delicate and translucent) to 0.6 mm at the feet where it is most
tenacious. With the exception of the palms and soles, skin is covered with a
duvet or at certain regions unwanted, mostly for us women, HAIR !!!
So it should not be limited only face when it comes to taking
care of our skin. It is essential to go to the root of the subject to
understand the functioning of the skin. This will allow us to get to know how
to take care of our skin and most importantly, this will guide us on the
proper daily skin care routine of this natural coat which serves to regulate
the body temperature according to the seasons of the year.
Yes indeed! In case you didn’t know, our skin has very specific
functions for our well-being. It serves to retain water contained in our body,
hence the importance of hydrating it regularly with lotions and drinking lots
of water. It breathes: 1 gram of skin absorbs 1 liter of pure oxygen per hour.
It is used to purify toxins which are sweat and sebum, to establish mineral
reserves, fats, water, absorb shocks, protect microbes and convert ultraviolet rays into vitamin D. As
you can see, the skin participates in keeping us alive daily and keeping it in
good condition should be OUR priority.
